Shaping Sustainable and Experience-Driven Tourism Futures
The Department of Tourism at Manhattan International University examines one of the world’s largest and most dynamic industries through multiple lenses—business management, cultural studies, geography, and sustainability. Our programs address the opportunities and challenges facing contemporary tourism, from experience economy trends and digital disruption to overtourism and climate change impacts. We prepare students to develop and manage tourism products, destinations, and policies that balance economic benefits with environmental and social responsibility.
The curriculum covers tourism marketing, destination management, tourist behavior, heritage interpretation, and tourism policy and planning. Students explore specialized segments such as cultural tourism, adventure tourism, MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences, exhibitions) tourism, and sustainable tourism development. The program emphasizes digital skills in tourism, including data analytics for tourism businesses, digital marketing strategies, and the impact of emerging technologies like virtual reality on travel experiences.
Field trips to tourism attractions, destination management organizations, and hospitality businesses provide real-world learning. Our London location offers access to one of the world’s premier tourism destinations, with its rich cultural assets and diverse tourism enterprises. Through Erasmus+, students can study tourism in different European contexts. Graduates pursue careers as destination managers, tour operators, tourism marketing specialists, event managers, sustainable tourism consultants, and policy advisors in tourism authorities.
