Department of Medical Sciences – Physiotherapy

Optimising Movement, Function, and Quality of Life Through Evidence-Based Practice
The Department of Physiotherapy at Manhattan International University is committed to developing autonomous, reflective practitioners who restore and enhance movement in individuals affected by injury, illness, or disability. Our programme is grounded in the belief that movement is central to health and well-being. We equip students with the scientific knowledge, clinical reasoning skills, and hands-on practical expertise to assess, diagnose, and manage a wide spectrum of musculoskeletal, neurological, and cardiorespiratory conditions across the lifespan.

The curriculum is built on a solid foundation of human anatomy, physiology, and biomechanics, providing a deep understanding of how the body moves and functions. Students then progress to master core physiotherapy skills, including manual therapy techniques, therapeutic exercise prescription, electro-physical modalities, and respiratory care. A key thread running through the programme is the development of sophisticated clinical reasoning, enabling graduates to critically evaluate evidence, formulate individualized treatment plans, and measure outcomes effectively. We also place a strong emphasis on communication, professionalism, and the promotion of self-management and healthy lifestyles among patients.

Clinical education is integral, with students undertaking multiple placements in diverse settings such as NHS hospitals, private clinics, sports teams, and community rehabilitation centers. Our location in London provides access to a vast network of world-class healthcare providers for these placements. The department’s research activities in areas like sports rehabilitation, chronic pain management, and neuroplasticity inform our teaching, keeping it at the cutting edge. Upon graduation, our students are eligible to apply for registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP), embarking on careers in the NHS, private practice, professional sport, occupational health, or academia.
